The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's basketball team suffered a devastating Skyline Conference loss at Mt. St. Mary College on Tuesday evening.

Junior Megan Spina led all players with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds with three assists and two blocks

Graduate student Charlotte Twohig pitched in with 14 points and a pair of steals

How it happened:

The Knights came out to a strong start grabbing a seven-point lead after the first quarter, 16-9
-
Their lead ballooned to their largest of the night, 21-11, at the 6:27 mark in the second
-
A couple of minutes later, Sierra hit a jumper before three different Golden Eagles connected from long range taking a 22-21 advantage into the break

Mt. St. Mary opened the third frame with seven unanswered points jumping ahead 28-22, holding SJLI scoreless through the first four and half minutes of play

After an exchange of baskets, Twohig scored twice for five points inching the Golden Eagles to within two, 31-29

MSMC's Love scored with under a minute left, but a three from Barrerios in the final seconds cut the deficit to just one, 33-32
-
Both sides scored to open up the fourth quarter, but a 9-2 run by the Golden Eagles followed giving them their largest lead of the evening, 44-37, with just under five minutes left to play

MSMC's Donato made a three and back-to-back buckets from Brianna Guglielmo evened the score at 44 sending the game into overtime

The Golden Eagles took their first lead of the overtime period via back-to-back layups from Spina, 50-49, with a free throw moving the score to 51-49 with 3:14 left

An 8-0 MSMC run put the hosts ahead 57-51 with 30 seconds on the clock

Spina followed with a layup and then made two trips to the free throw line covert three of four putting the Golden Eagles with one, 57-56, and only 10 seconds left

MSMC's Love went on to ice the game with a pair of free throws in the final seconds to secure the 59-56 win
