Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) softball team falls to the University of Minnesota Morris 7-4 on Saturday afternoon. 

Key Players:

  • Junior Brooke Bove finished with two hits and a game-high three RBI's
  • Sophomore Jacqueline Flannery posted two hits on four appearances on the plate, with one run scored
  • Junior Antonia Busa posted one hit, one run scored and one RBI
  • Senior Julia Ruocchio added one hit and one run scored

How it happened:

  • After holding the Golden Eagles off the scoreboard in the opening inning, the Cougars collected an early lead when they scored three runs on two hits
  • Minnesota Morris added to their lead in the bottom half of the second inning, as they finished with three hits, allowing two runners to come home to take a 5-0 lead
  • Flannery was able to get on base in the fourth inning, eventually advancing to third on a passed ball, leading to Busa doubling to center field to bring Flannery home to score as SJLI secured their first run of the game
  • After Ruocchio got on base with Busa, a Bove single to shortstop allowed both Ruocchio and Busa home to score as St. Joseph's cut the Minnesota Morris lead to just two (5-3)
  • The Golden Eagles held the Cougars scoreless through the next two innings, and in the top of the sixth inning, another Bove single through the left side secured another run scored for SJLI to make the score 5-4 in favor of the Cougars
  • Minnesota Morris finally added to their lead in the bottom half of the sixth inning, totaling two runs on three hits, as they held St. Joseph's scoreless in the final inning to capture a 7-4 victory
