Softball Sweeps Yeshiva in Season Opener

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) softball team opened its season with a pair of conference sweeps against Yeshiva on Sunday afternoon.

Game One:

How it happened:

  • SJLI started the game strong as the Golden Eagles accumulated six runs in the opening inning, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Vacchio that saw Ciancuielli and Brooke Bove score
  •  St. Joseph's again kept the pressure on in the second inning, where they totaled eight runs on nine hits, with Busa securing a two-RBI double to right field to take a 14-0 lead at the end of the inning
  • The Golden Eagles scored eight runs in the final two innings as they secured a 22-0 in game one

  • Junior Brooke Bove went 2-2 at the plate, scoring three runs
  • Senior Julia Ruocchio posted one hit, two runs scored, and three RBI's
  • Freshman Sarah Murphy tallied one hit, two runs scored, and two runs batted in

How it happened:

  • Similar to game one, SJLI started strong in the first inning as they totaled five runs on five hits, holding the Maccabees off the scoreboard as well
  • The Golden Eagles again added to their lead when they finished the second inning with five runs on three hits, highlighted by a Murphy two-RBI single that brought home Vacchio and Busa to score
  • As St. Joseph's entered the fourth inning with a 15-run advantage, the Golden Eagles scored five runs on no hits, leading into the fifth inning, where they secured three runs scored on just two hits to complete game two with a 23-0 victory
