The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) baseball team walked off SUNY Maritime to a Skyline Conference sweep at Gregg Alfano Field on Sunday afternoon. Senior Peter Manger recorded his 100th career strikeout and threw a gem for a 5-1 win in game one before junior Marco Gullo's game-winning hit in the bottom of the 10th lifted the Golden Eagles to a 9-8 victory in game two.

Game one: SJLI 5; Maritime 1

Key Players:

  • Senior Anselmo Joya went 2-for-2 with a walk, triple, RBI, and two runs

  • Senior Jordan Ramlogan went 2-for-3 with two RBI

  • Sophomore Joe Thatcher was 1-for-3 with a home run and two runs

  • Starter Peter Manger improved to 3-1, allowing just one run on two hits with four Ks in a complete game effort

How it happened:

  • The Golden Eagles scored first with a three-run bottom of the first. Mike DiFilippo walked and John Lynch was hit by a pitch to start the inning before a wild pitch and a failed pick off attempt resulted in runs. Ramlogan followed with an RBI double in the left-center gap, 3-0

  • The Privateers pushed a run across in the top of third when Joey Goodman was hit by a pitch and came into score on a sac fly by Owen Weber, 3-1

  • Ramlogan knocked in another run with a base hit up the middle in the bottom of the third, 4-1

  • The Golden Eagles capped the scoring in the bottom of the fifth when Thatcher snuck a solo shot just inside the right field foul pole, 5-1

Game two: SJLI 9; Maritime 8

Key Players:

  • Joya was 4-for-5 with a double, an RBI, and three runs scored

  • Senior James Maggio went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI, and two runs

  • Joe Hackal was 2-for-2 with two walks, an RBI, and a run scored

  • Gullo had the game-winning hit and RBI in his only at-bat

How it happened:

  • Maritime batted around in the top of the first for seven runs on five hits, 7-0

  • Joya got the Golden Eagles on the board in the bottom of the second when he legged out an infield hit and then came into score on a wild pitch a few batters later, 7-1

  • St. Joseph's continued to chip away with four Golden Eagles knocking in runs in the bottom of the third, 7-5

  • A couple of defensive miscues by Maritime in the fourth and fifth resulted in a pair of runs for the host and evened the score, 7-7

  • The Golden Eagles took their first lead of the game when Maggio doubled down the left field line to start the bottom of the eighth and scored a couple of batters later on a perfectly placed bunt single by Hackal, 8-7

  • The Privateers scored their first run since the first inning when Alex Bardi tripled and came home on a single through the left side by Michael Frazzetta in the top of the ninth, 8-8

  • After Morabito retired Maritime in order in the top of the 10th, Maggio led off the bottom half of the inning with a base hit up the middle and stole second to move into scoring position. Two batters later, Gullo drove a single off the pitcher's leg and into right field, allowing Maggio to score in walk-off fashion, 9-8
