Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) softball team falls to John Jay in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday evening. 

Game One: SJLI 2, John Jay 12

Key Players:

  • Sophomore Jacquline Flannery finished game one with one hit and one RBI
  • Senior Julia Ruocchio totaled one hit and one RBI
  • Sophomore Samantha Lugo scored one run

How it happened:

  • The Bloodhounds scored the first runs of the game in the bottom of the first inning, collecting three runs scored on four hits; Highlighted by an RBI triple to right center, followed by a home run to left center field 
  • John Jay added to their lead in the second inning with four runs on just two hits, led by a three-RBI double to take a 7-0 lead early
  • The Golden Eagles got on the scoreboard in the third inning, with a Flannery single to right center bringing home Lugo to score, followed by a Ruocchio RBI-single that allowed Flannery to score
  • John Jay responded in the bottom half of the inning, producing their highest scoring output of the game with five runs. That saw two different RBI doubles to take a commanding lead in game one, 12-2
  • Neither team was able to score for the rest of the game as the Bloodhounds took game one

Game two: SJLI 1, John Jay 9

Key Players:

  • Flannery recorded one hit
  • Sophomore Emaa Rondinella pitched six innings for the Golden Eagles, allowing eight hits and four runs 

How it happened:

  • After holding SJLI scoreless in the top of the first inning, the Bloodhounds would successfully get two batters on base in the bottom half of the first, setting up a three-run home run over the left center field wall to take a three-run lead
  • As both teams would hold each other scoreless until John Jay scored another run in the bottom of the sixth, where a double to left center drove in an additional run for the Bloodhounds
  • The Golden Eagles were unable to score a run in the game as John Jay took game two 4-0
