Softball Wraps Up Regular Season with a Sweep Over Sarah Lawrence

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) softball team sweeps Skyline Conference rival Sarah Lawrence to end the regular season. 

Game One: SJLI 12, Sarah Lawrence 2 

Key Players:

  • Sophomore Kylee Hall led the Golden Eagles, going 3-3 at the plate with three RBIs and one run scored
  • Sophomore Jacqueline Flannery recorded two hits, two runs scored, and two runs batted in
  • Sophomore Alexandria LaBarba totaled one hit, two runs scored, and two RBIs
  • Senior Gabriella Vacchio contributed two hits, two runs, and one RBI
  • Senior Caitlyn Herzing pitched four innings, earning the win and allowing just two hits and two runs scored

How it happened:

  • The Golden Eagles found the scoreboard in the top of the first inning, with LaBarba securing a two-RBI double to left center, followed by a Vacchio RBI single to left field as SJLI ended the inning with a 4-0 lead 
  • SJLI added to their lead in the third, finishing the inning with five runs on five hits, highlighted by a Flannery two-RBI single through the left side, and an Emily Fenezia RBI single through the left side
  • The Gryphons scored their first runs of the game in the bottom of the third with a two-RBI single up the middle to make it a seven-run game (9-2)
  • St. Joseph's scored an additional three runs on just two hits in the fifth inning to clinch a game one victory 

Game two: SJLI 9, Sarah Lawrence 3

Key Players:

  • Senior Julia Ruocchio provided two hits, one run scored, and one RBI
  • Vacchio posted three hits, two runs scored, and two RBIs
  • Junior Katelyn Lysogorski added one hit and two RBIs
  • Junior Antonia Busa finished with one hit, one run scored, and two RBIs

How it happened:

  • The Gryphons were able to capture the first lead of the game, securing three runs on four hits
  • SJLI responded in the second inning as Samantha Lugo homered to left center to cut the deficit to just two
  • St. Joseph's had their first lead of the game in the third inning, with a Busa two-RBI double down the right field line, followed by a Ruocchio double to left center that drove in Busa to score as SJLI took a 4-3 advantage
  • After scoring one run in the fourth inning, the Golden Eagles totaled four runs on six hits in the fifth, as Vacchio secured a two-RBI single up the middle as St. Joseph's took game two with a final score of 9-3
