Lacrosse Thumps Manhattanville, 16-7, for Third Win

Purchase, N.Y. – The Golden Eagles (3-3) snagged their third win of the season in a 16-7 game Wednesday evening against Manhattanville (2-2). Four members of the team bested SJC career records during this contest.

Heather Ferchland (Selden, N.Y./ Centereach) posted the first point of the game at 28:23 and got the ball rolling. The next four goals also came from Golden Eagles, – another from Ferchland at 23:48, along with a goal each from Meaghan Haber (East Northport, N.Y./ John Glenn) at 25:08, Jessica Cordano (Bohemia, N.Y./ Connetquot) at 21:12, and Graceann Fallon (Kings Park, N.Y. / Kings Park) at 20:25.

By halftime, the Golden Eagles were up 8-2 and came back with force straight into the second half. Ferchland again prompted scoring at 29:22 and SJC scored another five goals before Manhattanville could even touch them.

Both Courtney Wickline (Medford, N.Y./ Bellport) and Katie McGarrell (Selden, N.Y./ Newfield) brought a presence in net, totaling nine saves and allowing only seven goals. The Golden Eagles completely dominated the game with 37 shots on goal and 15 draw controls out of the 25 total.

Fallon and Ferchland led the squad with four goals, with Ferchland also adding two assists.  Haber sccored three with an assist and Kristin Carroll (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) netted two.

With four assists in the game, senior Caitlynn Webber (Eastport, N.Y./ Eastport-South Manor) slid her way into first place for all-time career assists for the Golden Eagles with a grand total of 49 – the previous record was 48. Webber also scored her 100th goal against Hartwick and now has 101 for her career, which places her in second for that title as well.

Ferchland took the lead for career points scored last year. She now has a total of 168 points in two-plus seasons and has also taken over in the category of career goals with 149 for her career.

Cordano moved into sixth place in career points with 69.

The Golden Eagles hit the road again for a non-conference match against Emerson College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
