Ferchland & Webber's 11 Goals Combine to Crush Western CT, 21-12

Box Score

Danbury, Conn. - The St. Joseph's College women's lacrosse team advances to 4-3 after marching past the Western Connecticut Colonials (3-4), 21-12, in a non-conference road match on Thursday afternoon at the Westside Athletic Complex.

Lady Golden Eagles Heather Ferchland (Selden, N.Y./ Centereach) and Caitlynn Webber (Eastport, N.Y./ Eastport-South Manor) led the charge for SJC, bombarding the Colonial goalie as Ferchland registered a game-high six goals and Webber followed with five tallies.

Seven more Golden Eagles were able to find the back of the net during the contest, including two-goal performances from Tricia Barrett (Holbrook, N.Y./ Sachem North), Meaghan Haber (East Northport, N.Y./ John Glenn), and Kristin Carroll (Patchogue, N.Y./ Patchogue-Medford), along with single tallies from Jessica Cordano (Oakdale, N.Y./ Connetquot), Graceann Fallon (Kings Park, N.Y./ Kings Park), Ela Igdeler (Islip, N.Y./ Islip), and Nicole Lyman (West Babylon, N.Y./ West Babylon). Carroll also added a game-high five assists to supplement her multi-goal performance.

St. Joseph's shot accurately and often, connecting on 21 goals off 37 shots, while outshooting Western by three blasts.

SJC had a quick start to the game after attaining a 3-1 lead after goals by Webber, Haber, and Carroll.  The Colonials were able to strike back, scoring five unanswered scores to overtake the lead.

The Golden Eagles clawed at the lead and eventually took it for their own at 9:57, when Webber found the net for her second mark on the afternoon, sparking a 4-2 run that put St. Joseph's on top of Western Connecticut, 11-8, heading into halftime.

Less than nine minutes into second period action, the Lady Eagles surged for seven goals, to double the Colonials score for the largest lead of the game.  SJC's momentum stemmed from Ferchland's fast play after notching four goals in three minutes and three seconds.

In the final minutes, St. Joseph's was able to beat the Western goaltender three more times to cap off the victory.

Golden Eagle goalkeeper Courtney Wickline held strong in-between the pipes, stopping 18-of-28 shots.

St. Joseph's College will look to translate their high-scoring performance into their next matchup, as the team returns home for their first Skyline Conference battle of the year against the Sage Gators (0-4) for Alumni Day at 1:00 p.m. this Saturday.
