Cordano, Ferchland Lead Women's Lacrosse Past Dolphins in Skyline Opener

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's lacrosse team scored 10 unanswered goals in the first half on its way to a 17-1 rout over of the College of Mount St. Vincent on Saturday afternoon at Danzi Stadium. It marks the fifth straight season that the Golden Eagles opened Skyline Conference play with a win as they improve their record to 3-4 (1-0 Skyline) on the season. The Dolphins skid to a 0-7 (0-1 Skyline) start to their season.

Jessica Cordano and Heather Ferchland led a balanced scoring attack for St. Joseph's with both players tallying a game-high five points (3g, 2a). Cordano now has 110 points in her career and needs just five more to tie Ela Igdeler to move into third place in program history. Cordano also moves into second place on the program's all-time assists list with 58—four behind Caitlynn Webber who as 62 assists to her name.

Tricia Barrett had a hat trick, while Meaghan Haber tallied three points on two goals and an assist. Overall, 10 different players recorded goals and had at least one point in the victory.

St. Joseph's never trailed as Nicole Stoppelli and Jenna Kelleher netted back-to-back goals to give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead less than two minutes into the game. The Golden Eagles built a quick 7-0 lead less than 10 minutes in with help from Ferchland's two goals at the 21:03 mark. Jessica Cordano scored back-to-back goals to send hosts into halftime with a 10-0 lead.

Following Ferchland's third goal of the game 4:56 into the second half, Meaghan Haber scored two straight goals before Mount St. Vincent capitalized on an SJC yellow card scoring its first goal of the game, 13-1, at the 12:44 mark. Melanie Cervone and Barrett extended the SJC lead to 15-1 with under four minutes to play, and Ally Johnston and Tiffany Willms scored the final goals game to earn the hosts to a 17-1 victory.

The Golden Eagles outshot Mount St. Vincent, 34-2, and picked up 15 ground balls to the Dolphins' five. Kelly Walsh recorded four draw controls, helping the Golden Eagles to a 9-7 advantage in the circle.
