Golden Eagles Fall Short to Manhattanville On Saturday Night

Box Score

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's lacrosse team dropped a 10-9 decision to Manhattanville College in a non-conference contest at Danzi Stadium on Sunday evening. With the loss the Golden Eagles fall to 0-2 on the season as the Valiants improve to 1-1.

Chris Nielsen opened the scoring 1:35 into the contest for the Golden Eagles, and later Casey Hickey doubled SJC's goal total at 11:50. Consecutive goals from Manhattanville's Andrew Murray tied the game up at two with 4:27 remaining in the quarter, but back-to-back goals by Jack Murray and Scott Reece put the Golden Eagles ahead 4-2 at the end of the first quarter.

The Valiants knotted the game up at four on Murray's third goal of the contest at 12:12 and pulled ahead with a Will Duval goal two minutes later. After a scoreless 10 minutes, Josh Shaw ended the first half with a diving shot outside of the crease to ensure the score was tied at halftime.

Brandon Riley went for two goals and Casey Hickey for one as SJC outscored the guests 3-1 in the third to take a 8-6 advantage into the fourth.

Two goals in the opening half of the fourth for Manhattanville tied the game at eight before Tristan Green's tally with 5:05 to play saw the guests take their second lead of the evening.

TJ Caccavo tallied his second goal to put the visitors' ahead 10-8 moments later, and SJC, looking to stop the bleeding, got back on the board after Murray rifled a shot past the keeper to pull SJC to within one with 3:54 to play.

St. Joseph's would only muster up two shots in the final minutes but in the end it was not enough as the hosts fell 10-9.

Shaw led the Golden Eagles with five points (1g, 4a) and Riley, Hickey, and Murray tallied two goals each.

The Golden Eagles dominated in faceoffs with a 18-4 margin over Manhattanville, and picked up 40 ground balls compared to Valiants' 21.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, March 7 when they host St. Thomas Aquinas College for a 7:00pm contest at Danzi Stadium. Live stats for the game will be available here.
