Fourth Quarter Push Sees Men's Lacrosse Past Manhattanville

Box Score

Purchase, NY| Two early fourth quarter goals 40 seconds apart lifted the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's lacrosse team (3-3) to a 7-6 victory over non-conference foe Manhattanville College (5-3) in Purchase, NY on Monday evening.

Trailing by one heading to the fourth quarter, sophomore Chris Nielsen tied the game up at six with his fourth goal of the season at 12:51 of the final frame, setting the scene for sophomore Zak Jones to pot the game-winner less than one minute later.

Jones, along with senior Casey Hickey and Manhattanville's Andrew Murray, each tallied a game-high two goals in the contest. Both Jones and Hickey also recorded assists and combined for 19 shots.

Sophomore Andrew Yoli earned the start in goal for the Golden Eagles and allowed one goal in the game's opening quarter. Sophomore Adam Sivon (3-3) played final three frames and made nine saves to earn the victory.

Hickey opened the contest's scoring 25 seconds into regulation and paved the way for the guests to take a 3-1 lead into the second quarter. The Valiants replicated the Golden Eagles' first-quarter output in the second and ensured the sides entered the break locked in at 4-4 scoreline.

The hosts outscored SJC 2-1 in the third and took a one-goal lead (6-5) into the final period, but Nielsen and Jones' marks inside the opening three minutes proved enough as St. Joseph's snapped a three-game losing skid with a 7-6 victory.

Despite generating fewer shots (40-31), SJC was more accurate having been credited with 22 shots on goal to Manhattanville's 19.

Flawless in the faceoff circle, SJC's Declan Canevari was 15-for-15 on faceoffs.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Thursday, March 29 when they host the College of Mount St. Vincent for a Skyline Conference showdown at Danzi Stadium at 5:30 pm.
