Box Score

Patchogue, NY| Rebecca Malech's bucket with just two seconds left in the game lifted Yeshiva University to a 79-77 Skyline Conference win over the St. Joseph's College women's basketball team on Sunday afternoon.

The loss puts the Golden Eagles at 1-7 on the season with an 0-5 record in conference play. The Maccabees improve to 3-6 overall, 2-5 Skyline.

The Golden Eagles were led by sophomores Megan Steinman and Alyssa Signor with 20 and 17 points, respectively. Freshman Catherine Siounis finished with a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Freshman Emma Lange provided nine points off the bench for the Golden Eagles and freshman point guard Julianna Knice dished seven assists.

Yeshiva got a 33-point and seven assist performance from Yuval Nitzan. Tehilla Teigman had a double-double of 20 points and 10 boards with Jessie Orgel finishing with 13 points.

The Maccabees led by as many as 16 points by the end of the third quarter, but the Golden Eagles chipped away and a triple from Steinman followed by a layup from Signor brought the score to 76-76 with just under three minutes to play.

After a 1:27 scoring drought, Yeshiva's Teigman went 1-for-2 at the free-throw line to put the visitors ahead by one, 77-76. With 39 seconds on the clock, SJC's Steinman was sent to the line and made one of two free throws to tie the game again at 77.

On the following possession, YU's Malech was sent to the line and after missing both free throws got her own rebound and was able to drop in the game-winning shot.

The Golden Eagles outshot the Maccabees 41.1% to 38.2% from the field, but YU held a 35.0% to 25.0% advantage from three-point range.

St. Joseph's resumes play on Saturday, December 28 when they travel to the CUNY Coaches vs Cancer Tournament and face Lehman College.
