Brust Breaks Single-Game Saves Record in Loss to Kean

Box Score

Patchogue, NY| A late-game rally was cut short for the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's lacrosse team in a 15-11 non-conference defeat to Kean University at Danzi Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The loss sends the Golden Eagles to 3-3 overall on the year as the Cougars improve to 6-3.

Despite the result, senior goalie Andrew Brust (L, 3-3) shattered the program's single-game saves record with 27 on 42 shots. Andrew Yoli previously held the record with 20 saves against Stockton on March 17, 2017.

Senior Tim McCann led the SJC offense with three goals and one assist. Senior Robert Lopez went for two goals and one assist and sophomore Michael Carere tallied one goal and two assists.

Freshman Anthony Dibene led the Golden Eagles in ground balls (5) and caused turnovers (3) and was credited with four faceoff wins on nine draws.

SJC led 3-0 halfway through the first quarter with goals via Lopez, McCann and senior Richie Polizzi Jr. but settled for a one-goal advantage (4-3) at the end of the opening frame.

The Cougars outscored the hosts, 4-2, in the second quarter and carried a 7-6 lead into the break.

Down 14-9 with 6:51 left in regulation, McCann and junior Kyle Strayer scored in quick succession to cut the deficit to three goals (14-11), though the comeback bid came too late as Kean rode out a 15-11 victory.

St. Joseph's was edged by Kean in total shots (55-32), faceoffs won (17-12), and ground balls (44-36).

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, April 9, when they host Farmingdale State for a Skyline Conference contest at 12:00 pm.
