Men's Lacrosse Topped by SUNY-Delhi on Tuesday

Results:

SUNY-Delhi topped the St. Joseph's University (L.I.) men's lacrosse team on Tuesday evening, 11-1. 

Top performers:

  • Senior Michael Carere scored the Golden Eagles' lone goal en route to collecting a game-high nine ground balls and finishing 8-13 on faceoffs
  • Junior Nik Allen led the defensive effort, recording four caused turnovers, six ground balls, and adding one shot on goal
  • Senior Connor Van Dusen finished with 21 saves, facing 32 shots on goal, collecting six ground balls
  • Benjamin Moscatiello of the Broncos totaled two goals, two assists, and one groundball
  • SUNY-Delhi's Chris Lazazzaro added two goals, one assist, and one caused turnover 
  • Jagger Beachak of SUNY-Delhi finished with one goal, one assist, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers

How it happened:

  • The Broncos were able to pull ahead early, scoring their first goal three minutes into action; followed by two more goals, the Broncos took a 3-0 lead heading into the second
  • After the first five minutes of play in the second quarter had no goals scored, Lazazzaro netted one at the 10-minute mark to extend SUNY-Delhi's lead
  • Moscatiello and Beachak each were able to find the back of the net in the final four minutes of play in the first half as the Broncos took a 6-0 lead into halftime
  • The Golden Eagles were able to end their scoreless streak 5 minutes into the second half when Carere was able to find space to capture SJLI's first goal of the game
  • As the Broncos entered the final quarter with a 10-1 advantage, Kyle Brogan netted the final goal of the game as the Broncos secured the victory

Notes:

  • Russel Sage outshot the Golden Eagles 52-13
  • St. Joseph's held a 46-42 groundball advantage
  • The Broncos totaled eight different goal scorers 
  • Each team won eight faceoffs apiece
