How It Happened
- St. Joseph's opened the contest with early baskets from Rodriguez and Hawkins to take a brief 4–2 advantage before William Paterson found its rhythm from deep.
- The Pioneers used an early 18–9 run fueled by four made three-pointers to seize a 24–13 lead midway through the first half.
- A stretch of strong defense and trips to the free-throw line by Esposito helped SJLI slow the tempo, trimming the lead to 11 before a late WPU surge pushed the score to 50–37 at halftime.
- Early in the second half, Rodriguez and Hawkins knocked down back-to-back three-pointers as part of an 8–0 run that brought the Golden Eagles within eight (53–45).
- The Pioneers responded with steady perimeter play and consistent ball movement to extend their lead back to double digits, capitalizing on SJLI turnovers.
- Esposito dominated inside down the stretch, converting at the line and in the paint, while Todd and Gaston contributed key buckets to keep the game competitive.
- Despite matching William Paterson point-for-point in the second half (38–38), the Golden Eagles couldn't overcome the hot first-half shooting by the Pioneers.
Notes
- St. Joseph's shot 44.4% (24–54) from the field and 34.8% (8–23) from three-point range.
- The Golden Eagles went 19-for-31 (61.3%) from the free-throw line.
- SJLI forced 17 William Paterson turnovers and recorded 10 steals.
