Women's Lacrosse Handed First Conference Defeat

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's lacrosse team drops its first conference matchup to Farmingdale State Saturday afternoon. 

Top performers:

  • Graduate student Emma Lange led the Golden Eagles, scoring two goals, collecting two ground balls, and causing one turnover
  • Sophomore Sabrina Doyle recorded one goal, one assist, and caused one turnover
  • Sophomore Kaitlyn Ippolito added one goal, one assist, two ground balls, caused one turnover, and two draw controls
  • Carly Livingston led the Rams, totaling four goals, four assists, two ground balls, and one caused turnover

How it happened:

  • Doyle netted the first goals of the match to give SJLI a one-goal lead just four minutes into play on a man-up opportunity, converting on a free-position shot chance
  • The Rams closed out the final 11 minutes of the quarter in the first quarter, holding St. Joseph's off the scoreboard, while finding the back of the net three times to take a two-goal lead heading into the second quarter 
  • The Golden Eagles scored their second goal of the game when Ippolito found Lange open, who beat the keeper to make it a one-goal game (3-2) just 37 seconds into the second quarter
  • Farmingdale responded by scoring five unanswered goals over the next seven minutes of play to take control of the game and hold an 8-2 lead
  • Ippolito put an end to FSC's scoring run, finding the back of the net off the pass from Stolba to make it a five-point game heading into halftime 
  • Lange would score the first goal of the second half and her second of the game to make it a four-goal game before the Rams scored five unanswered through the remainder of the quarter 
  • Farmingdale entered the final quarter with a 13-4 advantage, as they would go on to score the final and only three goals of the quarter as they captured a 16-4 victory over the Golden Eagles

Notes:

  • St. Joseph's collected 17 ground balls, while Farmingdale St. scooped up 24
  • Each team had 11 draw controls
