St. Vincent, 2-6, 2-3 Skyline Results: The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's lacrosse team secures its second straight conference victory with a dominant, 19-5 win over the University of Mount Saint Vincent. Top performers: Graduate student Emma Lange led the Golden Eagles with six goals, two assists, one ground ball, and two caused turnovers Sophomore Sabrina Doyle helped guide SJLI with five goals, three assists, five ground balls, and three caused turnovers Sophomore Julia Stolba totaled two goals, one assist, one ground ball, and seven draw controls Sophomore Kaitlyn Ippolito added one goal, three assists, and three ground balls Julianna Gentile and Gianna D'Arenzio finished with one goal and one assist, each Senior Maggie Harding recorded seven saves and allowed just five goals How it happened: The Golden Eagles would score the first goal of the game before the Dolphins answered back with two goals of their own, to take a 2-1 lead with 6:01 left in the first quarter SJLI would quickly reclaim the lead to end the first quarter, as Stolba, Doyle, and Lange all found the back of the net to take a 4-2 lead into the second quarter Emily Grace Passaro opened the scoring column in the second quarter with a goal just 28 seconds into play, before UMSV answered back seven minutes later to keep it a two-score game In the final two minutes of the first half, Doyle, Ippolito, and Lange all scored a goal to help the Golden Eagles build on their lead as they took a five-goal lead into halftime (8-3) St. Joseph's would open the second half with five unanswered goals in the first three minutes of play, to take a 10-goal lead before the Dolphins ended the scoring run at the 8:38 mark in the third quarter, to make the score 13-4 Kayla Sodano scored on a man-up opportunity off the pass from Lange, as Doyle would find the back of the net again before the third quarter came to a close, as SJLI ended the quarter ahead 15-4 UMSV would score the first goal in the final frame to cut the deficit to 10, before St. Joseph's scored four unanswered goals to end the game and capture the conference victory Notes: St. Joseph's 29 ground balls to Mount Saint Vincent's 24 SJLI held a 21-6 draw control advantage The Golden Eagles were an efficient 13-15 on clears Up next: The Golden Eagles will host Manhattanville College for a Skyline Conference matchup on Saturday, April 19, at 1:00 PM.
