Seven Golden Eagles Land on Skyline Baseball All-Conference Teams

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) baseball team garnered seven end-of-season awards when the conference released its All-Conference teams on Wednesday afternoon.

 

Seniors Anselmo Joya, Jack Kelly, John Lynch, and Peter Manger were all named to the All-Conference First Team. Seniors Mike DiFilippo, Dante Morabito, and sophomore John Thatcher secured All-Conference Second Team honors. Additionally, senior Chris Perri landed on the All-Sportsmanship Team.

 

Joya, a two-time All-Conference selection, led the Golden Eagles with a.398 batting average while recording a .549 slugging percentage and a .473 on-base percentage. The outfielder recorded 26 runs, 23 RBIs, and was 13-of-17 in stolen base attempts. He totaled a team-best 45 hits, including 12 doubles, a triple, and a home run.

 

Kelly, a three-time All-Conference selection, finished with a 5-2 record and nine starts. The junior had a team-best 36 strikeouts in 44 innings pitched while holding opponents to just 18 earned runs.

 

Lynch, a three-time All-Conference selection, hit .323 on the season with a .565 slugging percentage and a .404 on-base percentage. The designated hitter knocked in a team-high 29 runs while scoring 22. He recorded 40 hits, including 12 doubles, a team-best six home runs, and earlier this season, the senior became SJLI's all-time hits leader

 

Manger, a two-time All-Conference selection, led the team and was second in the conference with a 2.27 ERA, compiling a record of 4-1 in eight starts. In his 43.2 innings of work, the senior totaled 23 strikeouts and held opposing batters to a Skyline-best .186 batting average and 11 earned runs.

 

DiFilippo, a two-time All-Conference selection, finished with a .316 batting average along with a .404 slugging percentage. The senior recorded 36 hits, 25 runs, and 21 RBIs. He totaled doubles and two home runs while swiping nine bases in 11 attempts. The shortstop is second in the conference with 99 assists while turning 13 double plays.

Morabito, a three-time All-Conference selection, made 14 appearances all out of the pen, totaling 28 innings. The senior finished with a 3-3 record and a team-best four saves while striking out 26 batters.

 

Thatcher earned his first All-Conference distinction, finishing the regular season leading the team with a .673 slugging percentage while posting a .381 batting average and a .435 on-base percentage. The first baseman finished with 43 hits, 34 runs, and 24 RBIs while adding eight doubles, a team-best five triples, and five home runs.

St. Joseph's wrapped up the regular season at 25-15 overall with a 15-5 record in Skyline play. The Golden Eagles enter the Skyline Conference Championship Tournament as the #2 seed when play begins at Gregg Alfano Field on Thursday, May 8th at 3:00 pm. The conclusion of the tournament will be held at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on May 10th and 11th.
